2010 Classes starting January 14th

Seven Things Baby Cardigan:    Intermediate Beginner.  This class is based on the book Seven Things that can “Make or Break” a Sweater by Margaret Fisher.  You only need to know the basic knit stitch and purl stitch.  We will cover increasing, decreasing, blocking, picking up stitches, seaming and buttonholes.  This is a great 1st sweater.  If you don’t have a little one to knit for consider making it for the knowledge and donating to charity.  We will have two sessions of this class you may come to either or both.  Session A Thur. 1-2:30 Jan 14, 21, 28 and Feb 4th.  Session B Sat 10:30-12 Jan 16th, 23, 30 and Feb 6th.  Cost is $50 plus materials.  Book included.

Beginning Knitting:  Beginner.  This class is for the true beginner.  We will learn to cast on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch and casting off.  This is a three week class that we are offering twice.  Please sign up for one session.  Session I meets Fri PM 5:30-7 Jan 15, 22, and 29th.  Session II meets Sat 10:30-12 Feb 27, March6, and 13th. Cost is $35 plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Autumn Shawl:  Advanced.  This is a stunning shawl made from Jojoland Rhythm yarn.  We will learn the entrelac stitch (not as hard as it looks).  The edging is a Cobweb Frill knit separately, then attached to the shawl.  Class meets Sat 1-2:30 Jan 16,23,30th and breaks for 4 weeks of knitting then meets again March 6 and 13th for finishing.  Cost $40 plus materials.  Instructor Vicki Hair.

Moebius Scarf:  Intermediate Beginner.  This scarf uses an interesting cast on taught by Cat Bordhi.  As you knit you are creating stitches on both sides of your cast on and creating a continuous loop.  Most interesting.  Class meets Sat Jan 16, 23, and 30th from 3-4:30.  Cost is $35 plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Felt Mittens:  Intermediate Beginner.  This warm mitten is knit with wool and mohair and then felted.  You will need basic knitting skills.  We will learn to use circular and double point needles, carrying two yarns together, making a thumb, and felting.  Class meets Fri P.M. 5:30-7 Feb 5, 12, 19, and 26th.  Cost is $35 plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Painted Diamond Bag:  Bag is worked in modular technique, assembling from square to square, without using any seams.  Edging and straps done in I-cord. Class meets Thur. 1-2:30 Feb 18, 25, March 4, and 11th.  Cost is $40 plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Felt Hat:  Intermediate Beginner.  This is a great class to take with a friend.  The fun is in the felting and shaping.  Class meets Sat 10:30-12 Feb 13 and 20th  Cost is $30 plus materials, pattern included.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Expression Swing Jacket:  Advanced Beginner.  The yarn for this project is thick and thin making the project a quick knit on big needles.  Shaping is done with needle changes and the jacket is pieced together.  Class meets Sat Feb 6, 13, 20, and 27th from 1-2:30.  Cost is $40 plus materials, pattern included.  Instructor Vicki Hair.

Sensational Socks:  Intermediate level.  Must be comfortable with casting on and the knit and purl stitch.  In this 6 week class we will make a small “class” sock to learn the basic techniques of heel flaps, turning the heel, gussets and the kitchner stitch.  Then using the Sensational Sock book you will select a sock pattern and design a custom sock for yourself.  Class meets Sat 3-4:30 Feb 6, 13, 20, 27, March 6, and 13th.  Cost is $55 plus materials (includes book).  Instructors Norma Smith and Vicki Hair.

Souper Bowl Sunday!  Join us on Sunday February 7th for a Knit-In, a bowl of soup and dessert.  Bring a project and spend some time in the company of knitters.

Loops of Love is an informal group of knitters and crocheters of all ages and skill levels where all are welcome to participate.  We meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 5 to 7 pm at Unwind to knit and crochet items for local and national organizations, including Birth to Five, Reid Hospital, and the Linus Project.
